Serial is a hit investigative journalism podcast from the producers of This American Life. At Studio Rodrigo, I worked with the Serial team to design a new web experience for the launch of their third season reporting on the American criminal justice system.

This season is a departure from its predecessors. Instead of diving deep into one big case, it follows several cases at a courthouse in Cleveland, taking the listener across the city to different locations. Moth Studio and independent artists produced some incredible animations featuring the real places from the show to serve as key art for each episode. It was our job to design an experience that showcased the art while making it easy to listen to new episodes as they aired.

Season 3 Landing Page Whenever a new episode was released, we featured it and its art at the top of this page. Serial released the first two episodes at the same time,

Teaser Page Before season 3 was released, we updated the landing page with a trailer and redesigned the navigation to the previous seasons.

Episode Page Each episode page puts the animation front and center. We also improved on the previous seasons by adding previous and next actions to jump between episodes.

Audio Player For users listening on the web, we tweaked the audio player to make it more usable on different screen sizes. On mobile, it sticks to the bottom for easy thumb accessibility.
